iHemo Implantable Artificial Kidney

A byproduct of the work on The Kidney Project is the development of iHemo. In this system, we use the hemofilter for the bioartificial kidney to create a permanent interface for implantable hemodialysis. The iHemo simplifies dialysis by eliminating the need for needle-based blood access. As shown in the figure below, the implanted hemofilter is attached to the patient’s blood vessels and connected to an external dialysate pump through a catheter to filter out blood toxins. The iHemo is a stepping stone on the way to the fully realized implantable bioartificial kidney.--> VISIT PROJECT
